"We feel that all life
experience can be related
through the
hockey metaphor."

-- Peter Katis
of the Zambonis

Watching the Zamboni brings out the rugged individualist. The machine is the ultimate off-road sport utility vehicle. It shaves, it cleans, it leaves a glossy finish, it grabs attention.

It manages to retain an aura of mystery.

The Zamboni has inspired key chains, license plates that read "My other car is a Zamboni" and song. David Letterman mentioned it in a Top Ten list and has driven an ice resurfacer for his show. A growing number of artists use it as a muse, including cartoonist Charles Schulz. Martin Zeller, former lead singer of The Gear Daddies, penned the now infamous "Zamboni" song; this version is performed by the masters of niche marketing (in the category of...hockey music?), The Zambonis.

The Zambonis has reached cult status. The band played in Denver, supporting the Avalanche during the 1997 Stanley Cup semi-finals. Their music and appearances live on.

The audio excerpt of "The Great Zamboni of Devotion" is a song from The Zambonis' album, "Play-Off Fever."

The Great Zamboni of Devotion

Seems I wait all day for this
Dare I dream of just one kiss
Feels like I've been banged against the boards

Zamboni goes around and around
Stomach just won't settle down
I've been here a hundred times before

I want to ride that great Zamboni of devotion
The rink will make those feelings disappear
And your love would be nice
While the Zamboni goes around the ice...
That great Zamboni is you my dear!

I want to ride that great Zamboni of devotion
The rink will make those feelings disappear
It's the price that I pay
For those hockey head game that you play...
That great Zamboni is you my dear!

I want to ride that great Zamboni of devotion
The rink will make those feelings disappear
Oh, how I wish
I could be the mustard on your knish...
That great Zamboni is you, my dear!
